Membership

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Academy, and promote the aims of objectives of the Academy, please fill in the form below. You will be contacted shortly to discuss your membership needs and options.

FULL MEMBERSHIP

The Council may elect to full membership any person who

  1. is the holder of a degree conferred by a recognised university, or
  2. holds any qualification deemed by the Council to be equivalent to such a degree, or
  3. is a professionally qualified teacher of English or a professionally qualified teacher who teaches in English, or
  4. has, written, published or edited any works which, in the opinion of the Council, are of merit or importance, or
  5. has won distinction in the theatre, broadcasting, journalism, publishing, or in any movement or organization devoted to the fostering of the English language or its literature, or
  6. has rendered signal service in furtherance of the objects of the academy, whether an Associate Member or not

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

  1. Any person who has signified in writing that he or she wishes to be an Associate Member of the academy may be elected to such membership by the Council.
  2. An Associate Member shall be entitled to attend and speak but not to vote (except to elect members to the Council) at meetings of the Academy which are open to Full Members and to receive notices, circulars and publications sent to Full members, save and except as provided in (3) below.
  3. Associate Members will not receive the English Academy Review free of charge, but will be supplied with the record of proceedings usually placed at the end of EAR. An Associate Member desiring to receive EAR in exchange for payment at the current rate may apply for that service to the Administrative Officer of the academy.

 

JOINT MEMBERSHIP

Joint membership is available to married couples at a reduced fee. In addition to separate application forms for the two applicants a covering letter must be supplied asking for Joint Membership and explaining which forms of Joint Membership is desired – i.e. Full Memberships for both, one Full and one Associate or Associate Memberships for both.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

Subscriptions are due and payable within 30 days of date of dispatch of notice of election and thereafter annually in March.

INTERESTS AND EXPERTISE

Please tick against each item below in which you have an interest or which is your field of expertise. If you would like to help other members of the Academy in any of the fields, please insert an extra tick against those. Your help here will enable us to maintain a complete database, and will be very greatly appreciated. If you would like to serve as a member of a panel of judges for any of the Academy awards, please indicate below the box.
